 in response to mc43...   I did not mean to upset you at all and I do feel for people who post on this site for help. It seems to be more of a airing out site because a person would be crazy to send money to anyone under this circumstance. I will tell you just what I told that other lady. There is some help at your local DHS office for food subsidies and help with utilities if you have low income. Sometimes the local power companies have programs to help those that need it. I do believe that we have to help ourselves even when it hurts. I am retired now but I raised 3 kids and paid off $100,000. of uncovered medical after my husband died. It was not easy, nor pleasant. But the kids got raised and those wonderful people at the labs and testing centers were paid. It can be done. I hope your situation improves. My heart goes out to all of you.

 in response to 45shorty...   I do not know what state you live in but it should not take several years to get Social Security to qualify your son for disability. If I am not mistaken it is mandated they resolve all applications in no more than 18 months. I am going to presume the application has been denied and you are in a appeal state. It may be there is not enough documentation to grant disability or he is not a level of disability to qualify. I would push again to get a final decision from SS so that you can go forward. I had polio in the early 1950's and it became impossible to work with my muscle failure advancing. I did go through all of their hoops and was approved the first time. I have heard horror stories of people trying to get disability and then again I have seen a lot of people getting disability and not truly being disabled enough not to be able to work. You should still be able to get food stamps and maybe medical for your son if he is not working and has doctor proof that he is not. Medicaid should come through with something. Medicaid is for those not on Medicare. I would suggest you contact the case worker who is assigned for your son or better yet get your son involved in the process. He is now an adult and will have to deal with our wonderful government for a long time. Check out your local food banks and aid agencies. It takes a lot of door knocking to get inside sometimes.

 in response to mc43...   My suggestion is to get a job and thank God that you are able to work. You can baby sit, walk dogs or do odd jobs for the elderly. Probably all of these areas are available to you within walking distance. God helps those who help themselves.There is not a tree out there that grows money.
